Dr. Laurence John Friesen passed away at Rest Haven Care Home at the age of 86.
Born in Kleefeld, Manitoba, to Reverend John R. and Maria Friesen, Laurence was raised on the family dairy farm, where he developed a lifelong love of animals.
He earned his veterinary degree from the Western College of Veterinary Medicine. After graduation, he moved to Steinbach and practiced for 24 years at South-East Veterinary Clinic, focusing primarily on dairy cattle. He retired in 1997.
Laurence was married to Linda Olson for 52 years. He was a devoted husband and proud father of Kevin and Todd. He enjoyed golfing, skiing, coaching baseball, singing, and serving as treasurer at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church.
He is survived by his wife Linda; sons, Kevin (Melissa) and Todd (Ruth); five grandchildren: Tanya, Kurtis, Josiah, Joshua, and Johanna; his sister Carol (Vern) Janzen; and brother-in-law Gord (Nita) Friesen. He was predeceased by his parents; brother Ron; and sisters: Elma (Henry) Dueck, Roseline (Isaac) Loewen, Betty (Dave L.) Friesen, Tilly (Abe) Eidse, Marion (Menno) Reimer, and Myrna Friesen.
The memorial service for Laurence Friesen will be held at 6:00 p.m., April 26, 2026, at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, Steinbach, MB.
Donations in memory of Laurence may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba Foundation (please designate donation to research) or St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church.
